USF-NSSLHA Students Host 7th Annual 'Speech Party'

Thank you and kudos to USF-NSSLHA students Morcie Anderson, Michael Wilt, Brandi Rodriguez, Emily Hulse, Katie Colin, Erica Reed, and more than 30 undergrad and grad volunteers, for hosting our 7th annual 'Speech Party' for young people who stutter, in collaboration with the National Stuttering Association. 32 families were in attendance from as far away as Boca, Naples and Orlando. Thank you also to Felix Matias for supporting the event on many levels. Another success that raises USF's visibility locally, nationally and internationally through the National Stuttering Association's rich network of people who stutter, clinicians and researchers (people around the world are hearing about this event today through the NSA's Facebook page). MHLP Professor Attends International Curriculum Meeting

Roger Peters, PhD, recently attended a Meeting for University Education Providers in Honolulu, Hawaii, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), and the International Centre for Credentialing and Education of Addiction Professionals (ICCE), which is part of the Colombo Plan. ICCE has developed a comprehensive evidence-based substance abuse treatment curriculum (Universal Treatment Curriculum; UTC) and a substance abuse prevention curriculum (Universal Prevention Curriculum; UPC) that have been disseminated in 43 countries. The purpose of the meeting was to convene universities from different regions of the world to discuss their potential use of the UTC and UPC curricula for academic or other training purposes. Through this initiative, plans are underway to establish USF (through MHLP and the College of Behavioral and Community Sciences) as a Coordinating Center for dissemination of the UTC curriculum to universities in the U.S. and Canada.
