Alison Salloum, Ph.D, LCSW, Associate Professor and Interim Director of the School of Social Work, presented her research on stepped care for children after trauma at the II International Congress of Clinical and Health Psychology on Children and Adolescents, Barcelona, Spain. Dr. Alison Salloum's presentation entitled, Toward an adaptive Intervention for Children after Trauma was part of a symposium on Addressing special challenges in treating child traumatic stress: improving child, family and provider outcomes.

Carla Stover, PhD, traveled to London to present a training on a new intervention manual she developed with colleagues from Oxford University and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) called "Steps to Safety." The intervention is a novel, home-based, family approach to working with couples struggling with situational couple violence. The training included three agencies across the UK from Scotland, Ireland and England that will pilot the intervention for a 1 year feasibility study.

Dr. Ráchael Powers and her graduate class in Criminology presented the findings of their research on perceptions of and experiences with the Palmetto Police Department. In attendance was the Chief of Police, Scott Tyler, and Director of Palmetto's Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), Jeff Burton. The graduate students have been participating in a semester long project as part of USF's inaugural Community Sustainability Partnership Program (CSPP) with the city of Palmetto. This campus-wide initiative entails students and faculty working with community officials to complete projects relevant to Palmetto. Dr. Powers' class examined citizens' perceptions of crime in Palmetto and attitudes toward the police in an effort to evaluate Palmetto's community-oriented policing efforts. Over the course of a semester they developed, imputed, and analyzed a community survey administered to all residents in the city as well as facilitated and analyzed data from focus groups with residents and business owners. These efforts will culminate in a final report to the city that the Chief of Police will use to help inform the future directions of policing in Palmetto.

Elisa Toman's paper entitled: "Extending Research on the Victim-Offender Overlap: Linking Prison Misconduct and In-Prison Victimization" won the American Society of Criminology Division of Corrections and Sentencing 2016 Student Paper Award.

The NIDILRR-funded Center on Knowledge Translation for Disability and Rehabilitation Research (KTDRR) will host a webinar series, Essential Practices to Facilitate Implementation of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), December 6th, 7th, and 8th, 3:00 - 4:00 ET each day. Effective Caseload Management is a two-session series focusing on: (1) how to manage heavy caseloads and conduct quality documentation, and (2) how to resolve ethical dilemmas and increase cultural diversity and competency. The third session, Integrating Customized Employment Strategies into the Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) System, will focus on the WIOA provisions that impact public VR systems, plus strategies and tools for implementing these provisions in a manner that promotes quality and sustainability. A panel will provide an overview of the implementation process from the perspective of both the VR system and VR vendors/providers. Registration is free and required for single sessions or the full series.

The FMHI Research Library will close for the season December 9th at 5pm. It will reopen January 3rd. Patrons who need to access the library may pose their request to the Tampa Library Desk: 974-1611. The Tampa Library can send someone over to take a book off the shelf, check it out to the faculty member, and deliver it to their office, so service should not be interrupted.

The Special Events Committee and the Holiday Party Planning Committee have partnered with USF's Feed-A-Bull to collect non-perishable food items and toiletries for our students who may be in need. Feed-A-Bull has placed several boxes throughout the building. If you are able to contribute a non-perishable food item or toiletry item it would be greatly appreciated. The Committees will also be collecting items at the CBCS Holiday Party which will be held in the atrium on December 15th. Anyone who brings in items to the Holiday Party on December 15th will receive 1 ticket per item, which can be used for the raffles at the CBCS Holiday Party (must be present to win).
