SW Students Present Poster

BRIDGE (Building Relationships and Initiatives Dedicated to Gaining Equality) Healthcare Clinic Social Work Faculty Advisor Dr. Chris Simmons along with current social work students Joheisly Espinal, Gillian Penn, Meredith Phipps, and Marylyam Melgar presented a poster at this year's Society of Student-Run Free Clinics annual conference in Anaheim, California. They presented on the benefits of the service-learning connection between a social work undergraduate course and the training students experienced by volunteering at the USF BRIDGE Healthcare Clinic. The service-learning aspect of this course provided students with an authentic connection of theory to practice and increased their understanding and insight by participating on a multidisciplinary team with students from medicine, public health, physical therapy and pharmacy.

CBCS Special Events Committee Pet Supply Drive

The Special Events Committee is proud to announce the CBCS Special Events Committee Pet Supply Drive! The supply drive will be taking place between February 27, 2017 and March 24, 2017 with several drop off locations throughout the college (Please see flyer). Three pawsitively amazing organizations will be benefiting from your contribution.

  • Saint Francis Society Animal Rescue is an all-volunteer team dedicated to rescuing homeless cats and dogs by providing health care and placement. Supplies collected are distributed among the different foster homes.

  • Guardian Angel Dog Rescue is dedicated to rescuing dogs and cats from euthanasia. Currently, Guardian Angel has more cats up for adoption than dogs (this is typical for groups that do both as the volume of cats is much higher on the streets and in shelters).

  • Dogma is an all-volunteer, all-pet rescue with an emphasis on rescuing mixed breed dogs in need. Dogma pays for all of the necessary vetting of each dog prior to adoption. Every Dogma dog is spayed/neutered, microchipped, dewormed, heartworm tested and vaccinated.

All three of these organizations do amazing things within our community and can equally benefit from some much needed supplies. I have provided the links to the organizations if you would like to look around their websites. For your convenience, a flier is attached if you would like to print some out to place around your department. Cat supplies (specifically cat litter) are needed most due to the high number of cats rescued. Dog supplies are also welcome as dogs are also rescued.

Seeking Donations of Fresh Filleted Fish

We are looking for any type of fresh or frozen, filleted fish. Please contact Julie Rivera at julie2@usf.edu or 974-4602 if you are interested in donating.

CBCS In the News

Court hears Reeves case
Tampa Bay Times
Donna Cohen, a University of South Florida professor who has conducted extensive research on aging, testified in general terms about the sense of vulnerability people develop as they get older. As their physical health declines, they become more attuned to their own weaknesses - and the incapacity to respond to stressful situations.
