School of Social Work Faculty Receive Grand Challenges Exploration Grant
Dr. Guitele Rahill and Dr. Manisha Joshi, faculty within the School of Social Work, participated in a Welcome Teleconference for their newly awarded Phase I Grand Challenges Exploration grant "Krik Kak: Mental Health for Pregnant Haitian Teens". The Grand Challenges Exploration calls for proposals that are in line with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation's acknowledgement, "All lives have equal value and everyone deserves a chance to live a happy and healthy life."  Dr. Rahill and Dr. Joshi were then informed that they were one out of 35 proposals funded in this specific round and out of 1600 proposals in total. Congratulations for moving forward with this accomplishment!


MHLP Director Receives Research Award
Marie McPherson, MBA, Director of Operations for the Pharmacy Program, has received a grant for her research project entitled: Pediatric Telepsychiatry Services Throughout Florida. This project will serve children and adolescents up to 21 years of age and explore a pediatric telepsychiatry program through telehealth equipment, mobile monitoring devices that transfer medical data. This will research how technology helps to overcome issues which prevent access to health care.

Through your contribution of the items below, we will be able to once again support Saint Francis Society Animal Rescue and Guardian Angel Dog Rescue. Saint Francis Society Animal Rescue is an all-volunteer team dedicated to rescuing homeless cats and dogs by providing health care and placement. Supplies are collected and distributed among different foster homes. Guardian Angel Dog Rescue is dedicated to rescuing dogs and cats from euthanasia.

Supplies Needed: 
  • Dog and cat flea preventatives
  • Laundry detergent
  • Dog and cat treats 
  • Large towels 
  • Clumping cat litter
  • Dental chews
  • Kitten nursing bottles
  • Canned and dry cat food (brands: Purina ONE, Purina Pro Plan, Royal Canin, BLUE Healthy Gourmet, Gerber 2nd Foods Turkey and Chicken)
