USF Social Work Students Partner with Rajiv Gandhi University in Northeast India
The 2018 USF School of Social Work study abroad program under the leadership of Dr. Manisha Joshi and Dr. Iraida Carrion to India titled "Sociocultural context of indigenous people's health" had two unique components. The Study Abroad Program was conducted as part of the US-India Knowledge Initiative Grant that we currently hold from the US India Education Foundation. These two components included: (1) International Training on Culture as a Resource, and (2) Exposure visits to a variety of social service and health organizations and interactions with professionals, leaders and members of indigenous communities. USF BSW undergraduate students, MSW graduate students and graduate students from our partner Higher Education Institution Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), in Arunachal Pradesh, India participated in the training and visits to hospitals, schools and to various community organizations. In addition, students had interactions with women's self-help groups, community leaders and its members. The international training included USF and RGU faculty and experts from Research Institute of Worlds Ancient Traditions Culture and Heritage, our community-based partner.

The richness of students' experiences are beautifully captured in the following blog that students have compiled and which has also been shared with our grant sponsor United States-India Education Foundation: https://swhimalayas2018.wordpress.com/  - We hope that you enjoy reading about their myriad experiences of immersing in an indigenous context as much as we have. Some of the activities that USF-RGU students and USF-RGU faculty and RIWATCH participated in are also captured in the following media reports:
