Dr. Roger Peters Presents at Conferences in Prague, Czech Republic
Dr. Roger Peters, Professor in the Department of Mental Health Law and Policy provided invited presentations at two recent conferences in Prague, Czech Republic.  One presentation was provided for the International Confederation of Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drug Research Associations (ICARA),  entitled "The International Consortium of Universities for Drug Demand Reduction (ICUDDR) and Regional Coordination of Quality Development: Addiction Research Training Goes Global".  Another presentation was provided for the International Society of Addiction Journal Editors (ISAJE) Annual Meeting, entitled "Collaboration between ISAJE, ICUDDR, and the International Society of Substance Use Professionals.
Dr. Kathy Hyer just received an R01 grant from the National Institutes of Health to study health outcomes of strategic approaches to disaster threats among vulnerable elderly in long-term care facilities. State-wide data from Florida and Texas will be used to conduct a thorough investigation of the health outcomes in the months after hurricanes Irma and Harvey associated with sheltering versus evacuation. Older adults are especially vulnerable to harm during disasters because of their medical comorbidities, such as dementia, and functional impairments. Prior work by Dr. Hyer and her team using data from the Gulf hurricanes from 2005-08 showed significant differences in morbidity and mortality outcomes in the months following the storms as a function of sheltering in place vs. evacuation. This project will fill the need for additional evidence to inform policies created to protect vulnerable NH residents in disasters, and extend this to assisted living communities.
The CBCS Faculty Council met on 8/30/2018.

What does the Faculty Council do?
They have the principal responsibility for originating policy in the following areas: Academic policy, Scholastic policy, Academic ethics and Research. Faculty Council Members act jointly with the administration to make recommendations in the areas of: policies and procedures for faculty appointment, promotion and tenure review, reward systems; discipline and termination; student conduct and activities; budgetary review and strategic planning; selection and review of academic administrators; and development of policy concerning the general academic welfare of the University. We also organize the Fall and Spring Faculty Assembly. We promote Faculty research at each Faculty Assembly.
