MACJA Donors Meet Scholarship Recipients
Our generous MACJA donors got the chance to meet their scholarship recipients at the MAJCA Donor/Scholar Luncheon last week. The scholars enjoyed the words of wisdom and stories about their time at USF from the donors, and the donors loved learning about each scholars plans after graduation from the program. These scholarship recipients will graduate with their M.A. in Criminal Justice Administration in May of 2019.
MHLP's Cary Hopkins Eyles Chosen to Attend Training

Cary Hopkins Eyles, MA, CAP, Assistant Director of the Universal Treatment Curriculum (UTC) Coordinating Center for North American Universities, was chosen to attend the Training of Trainers in the Universal Treatment Curricula (UTC) in Washington, D.C.. The training was held at the Organization of American States, Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD). The CICAD-hosted event will include two one week training sessions. Participants who complete the training and are selected as global trainers will be part of a cadre of Master trainers who travel to countries around the world to conduct trainings of trainers. Participating in this training series will assist Cary in her role at the University at the Coordinating Center and allow her a better understanding of the training process of the UTC.

Dr. Annette Chisty to Evaluate Hillsborough County's SAMHSA Funded Pre-Booking Diversion Program
Hillsborough County was one of eight communities recently awarded funding from SAMHSA's Law Enforcement and Behavioral Health Partnerships for Early Diversion Grant Program.  This will allow for continued funding of Hillsborough County's Pre-Arrest Intercept Jail Diversion Program (PIP).  SAMHSA awarded the full amount possible for this award ($330,000 per year for up to five years for a total of $1.65 million).  Annette Christy from the Department of Mental Health Law and Policy (MHLP) will serve as principal investigator of the evaluation under contract with Hillsborough County.  An initial phase of PIP was evaluated by Dr. Christy under contract with Hillsborough County with funds from a three-year DCF Reinvestment Grant and matching County funds.  Also involved in the evaluation from MHLP will be Daniel Ringhoff, Sara Rhode, and Kevin Jenkins. Paige Alitz, a second-year student in CBCS' Doctoral Program in Behavioral and Community Sciences, will serve as data manager and analyst for the project. Ardhys De Leon, a senior undergraduate at USF and alumna of FMHIs Summer Research Institute in Behavioral Health, will assist with interviews. Dr. Christy and her team will be working with Robert Parkinson and Sarah Rynearson-Moody from Hillsborough County's Criminal Justice & Grants Management Office, as well as staff from the Agency for Community Treatment ServicesTotal funding to USF for the 5-year evaluation is $330,000, including the 34.5% indirect.
3rd Annual School of Social Work Scholarship Breakfast
Please join the USF School of Social Work on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 from 8:30 - 10:30am in the Sam and Martha Gibbons Alumni Center for a brief screening of Heather Booth: Changing the World, followed by a conversation with Heather. Heather Booth is one of the leading strategists about progressive issue campaigns and driving issues in elections in the United States. She has been an organizer for over 65 campaigns, starting in the civil rights, anti-Vietnam war and women's movements of the 1960s. She was the founding Director and is now President of the Midwest Academy, training social change leaders and organizers. Proceeds raised from this event will support the Endowed Social Work Student Scholarship Fund. Event flyer...
