Dr.William Kearns Gives Keynote Address
William Kearns gave a keynote address entitled "Gerontechnology: Innovating Care for Older Persons" at the International Gerontechnology Expo & Forum (IGEF) held at the KINTEX conference hall  in Seoul, Korea on November 8. The IGEF is an annual conference that brings together academicians, business leaders and government representatives throughout Korea and Asia to exhibit evolving technologies and best practices for meeting the needs of our aging world population. The event was hosted by the Korean chapter of the International Society for Gerontechnology, Kangnam University (Seoul) and the Korean Association of Products and Services for Senior Citizens (KAPASS).
Dr.Kathryn Hyer Invited to be Keynote Speaker
Kathy Hyer was invited to be a keynote speaker at the International Association for Gerontology and Geriatrics Asia/Oceania Regional Congress in Taipei, Taiwan, held October 24-27, 2019.
CBCS Faculty and Staff Receive Global Achievement Awards
USF World hosted the 2018 Global Achievement Awards on November 15th. Dr. Ross Andel, Professor and Director of the School of Aging Studies, received the Global Achievement Faculty Award. Keri Uravich, Undergraduate Advisor in CSD, received the Global Achievement Staff Award for Outstanding Global Engagement. And Claudia Dold in the Research Library received a Fulbright Faculty Scholars metal. Congratulations to our CBCS global leaders.
CBCS PhD Student Emily Cutler Presents Research in Ireland
The week of November 20th, BCS PhD student and presidential fellow, Emily Cutler, presented her first major research project as a doctoral student at the international Critical Voices Network Ireland conference, sponsored by University College Cork.  The title of her presentation was "Polyphony in Activism," focusing on findings from an international survey of 600 mental health advocates in the US, Canada, UK, EU, Australia and India. 
Dr.Kathryn Hyer Recognized for Graduate Mentorship
This award recognizes faculty members who mentor graduate students with the highest level of quality. Criteria include selflessness in their time commitment, special efforts to develop their students as professionals, and the maintenance of strong relationships beyond graduation. 
One of her former students, Kali Thomas, PhD, provided this quote in support of Dr. Hyer's nomination:
"I always say that the one thing that has been instrumental in my achievments has been having a strong, female figure in my corner. Someone who believes in me. Someone who advocates for me. Someone who cares about me. Someone who recognizes my potential. Someone who makes me believe in myself. That person, for me, has and continues to be Dr. Kathryn Hyer." [More]
2019 Mom's Project Assistantships
The College of Behavioral & Community Sciences (CBCS) invites applications for undergraduate research assistantships to be offered through a special program known as The Moms Project. Assistantships of $500 each will be awarded to undergraduate students Application Deadline: November 30, 2018 at 5:00 p.m.
who will be conducting research during the Spring and/or Summer semesters, 2018. In order to be eligible for The Moms Project Assistantships, students must be:
* Completing an undergraduate major or minor in the College of Behavioral & Community Sciences;
* Conducting research in one of the three priority areas of The Moms Project. These areas may be widely interpreted to cover a broad range of topics related to the Undergraduate
