MHLP Assistant Professor Included on List of Top Black Drug Policy Reformers
Khary Rigg, PhD, was recently named as one of the top Black drug policy experts in the country. This list was compiled by two organizations: The Drug Policy Alliance, the largest American-based drug policy reform organization, and Filter, an online magazine covering drug use, drug policy, and human rights issues. Dr. Rigg was one of 17 drug policy experts listed from around the country, and 1 of 7 academics to make the list. View article.

Criminology Professor Receives Distinguished Service Award
Richard Dembo, PhD, received the Distinguished Service Award from the Florida Sheriff's Association on Thursday, February 21, 2019. Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister made the presentation.

MSW Student Named Social Work Student of the Year
 Brittany Difiore, won Social Work Student of the Year from the NASW Tampa Bay Chapter. She is pictured holding the award along with Jack Smith (unit chair), Carol Campbell (President of NASW Florida), and Teri Simpson, School of Social Work Director of Field Education.

CSD Receives Contribution for Student Scholarships
On February 17th, Sertoma of Bradenton contributed $5000 toward scholarships in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Sertomans in general, and Sertoma of Bradenton in particular, have a long history of supporting CSD. The money they give goes to provide scholarships to graduate students who go on to improve the lives of children and adults who are Deaf and hard-of-hearing and of other people with communication disorders.

Congratulations to Dr. Catherine Batsche on her Retirement from USF
CBCS hosted a retirement party for Dr. Catherine Batsche on February 19th and over 100 guests attended to wish her well. It was a wonderful tribute to Catherine to thank her for 27+ years of service to USF. It was nice to see so many colleagues from years past join us in the celebration. CSD Hosts Florida High School Students
On Friday, February 8th, CSD hosted high school students from across Florida for a day of ASL immersion. Over 80 students and many of their teachers came to see what USF has to offer in its Interpreter Training Program and its Deaf Studies Programs. Students left after a day learning about programs such as our Living Learning Community, our Study Abroad opportunities and our student organizations. We hope to have them back soon as future Bulls!
