SW Assistant Professor Co-PI on R21 Grant
Congratulations to Dr. Jerome Galea who is Co-PI on a R21 study that was awarded by the NIH to Harvard Medical School titled: Accompanying HIV-positive adolescents through the transition into adult care: a feasibility study. This project will study the feasibility and acceptability of an accompaniment intervention designed to improve care retention with viral load suppression among adolescents living with HIV in Lima, Peru. Dr. Galea will serve as Co-Investigator, leading the qualitative aspects of the project with specific emphasis on the experience of transgender and gay adolescents.

CJMHSA TAC Holds Expert Panel for Hillsborough County
On February 7, 2019, The Criminal Justice, Mental Health, and Substance Abuse Technical Assistance Center convened an expert panel for CJMHSA Reinvestment Grantee Hillsborough County. The panel discussion focused on Adult Drug Courts and Medication-Assisted Treatment. MHLP faculty member Roger Peters, PhD, and national expert Robert Schwartz, MD, presented to an audience that included Hillsborough County Problem-Solving Court judges, the Public Defender's Office, the State Attorney's Office, Court Administration, and Hillsborough County's Strategic Initiatives, Human Resources and Grants Management Office. USF-NSSLHA Participate in the March 4 TBI Walk
The first weekend in March, several members of USF-NSSLHA (National Student Speech Language Hearing Association) led by their president Guerin Scherpf, participated in the March 4 TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) walk in Orlando. The group raised $1500 to support TBI research, and Guerin was invited to the stage to read a proclamation from the mayor. Congratulations to Guerin and NSSLHA for supporting such an important and meaningful cause!

Gayla Poling to Speak as Part of the Distinguished Lecture in Audiology
Gayla L. Poling, will present "Advancing Hearing Loss Prevention Across the Life Span" on Friday, March 22, 2019 from 9:30 - 11:00am in PCD 1147. Dr. Poling is the Director of Adult and Pediatric Diagnostic Audiology at Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN) and an Assistant Professor in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. She serves as Vice-Chair of the Research Committee in the Department of Otolaryngology. She studied Audiology and Hearing Sciences at The Ohio State University before pursuing postdoctoral training focused on translational research at the Medical University of South Carolina and Northwestern University. Her clinical practice and current research interest is on developing diagnostic techniques and tools focused on the early detection and prevention of hearing loss due to aging, noise and other environmental factors (ototoxicity).

10th Annual Cycling for Autism
The ride starts at Whiskey Joe's in Tampa and offers 6, 12, 16 and 32-mile routes. Lunch, cash bar service, games for children and adults, bike raffle, and music will be provided.
