Criminology Faculty Receive 2019 USF Outstanding Faculty Award

Kathleen Heide, PhD, also received the 2019 USF Outstanding Faculty Award for her accomplishments as an AAAS Fellow.

Online MSW Program Ranked in the Top 10 by the Criminal Justice Degree Hub

The editors at Criminal Justice Degree Hub ranked USF in the Top 10 Degree Programs in Social Work for 2019. Criminal Justice Degree Hub ranked the Top 10 Master's in Social Work Online Programs by focusing on fully accredited colleges and universities offering online MSW programs. To assure students that their needs will be met, only accredited programs were considered. From there, CJDH ranked programs along three parameters: Cost, Reputation and Return on Investment. John Zrebiec, LICSW, joins the School of Social Work as Courtesy Assistant Professor

Please welcome John Zrebiec who has been appointed as courtesy assistant professor in the School of Social Work. John has a noteworthy career, including being Director of Behavioral and Mental Health at the Joslin Diabetes Center (2011-2017) and Lecturer on Psychotherapy in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School (1991-present). He is a national social work leader in the field of diabetes. We are very excited to welcome John Zrebiec to the School of Social Work and look forward to collaborate with him on future projects related to the growing field of diabetes research and interventions.

Heather George, PhD, Co-Director of Florida's Positive Behavioral Interventions & Support Project has provided several keynote addresses over the past few months:

  • Building Capacity to Systematically Improve Outcomes for All keynote at the 6th Annual Southeastern School Behavioral Health Conference in Myrtle Beach, SC on April 18, 2019.
     
  • Impacting the Whole Child through MTSS keynote at the 4th Annual PBIS Showcase in San Antonio, TX on March 4, 2019. She also presented an invited session on Lessons Learned: How Administrators Support Implementation of PBIS.
     
  • Supporting Effective PBIS Implementation through Capacity Building keynote and Fidelity, Readiness and Teaming in the Advanced Tiers plenary keynote with Sara McDaniel, PhD (University of Alabama) at the Region 19 Positive Behavior Interventions & Support Conference in El Paso, TX on January 23, 2019.
May is Better Hearing Month

May is National Better Hearing Month! According to the National Institute of Health NIDCD, approximately 20 percent (48 million) of American adults aged 20 to 69, have some trouble with hearing. Did you know that the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department has a hearing clinic here on campus? The USF Hearing Clinic is encouraging everyone at USF to make an appointment with our clinic if they suspect hearing loss for themselves or any of their loved ones. The USF Hearing Clinic provides hearing healthcare services to all ages and is located in the PCD Building-1st floor. All USF Faculty, Employees, Alumni, and Students are welcome. The USF Hearing Clinic takes most insurance plans and offers discounted rates on hearing devices and services to the USF community. 10th Annual Cycling for Autism
The Tampa Interbay Rotary Club is hosting its 10th Annual Cycling for Autism fundraiser on Saturday, May 4th, 2019 at the Courtney Campbell Causeway Trail. Since 2009 the Tampa Interbay Rotary Club has raised over $200,000 through the cycling event to support individuals in our community who have an autism spectrum disorder. Proceeds this year will benefit the Applied Behavior Analysis Program and the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities at the University of South Florida.
The ride starts at Whiskey Joe's in Tampa and offers 6, 12, 16 and 32-mile routes. Lunch, cash bar service, games for children and adults, bike raffle, and music will be provided.

2019 Fall Forensic Series

MHLP will be hosting its 2019 Continuing Education Forensic Training Series for Mental Health Professionals in early August. Instruction in forensic evaluation of adults and juveniles involved in the legal system is complemented with focused training on assessing and managing patients' risk for violence in acute long-term care settings. The Forensic Evaluation and Juvenile Justice training will take place from August 12 - 13, 2019. The Florida Adult Forensic Examiner Training will be held from August 15 - 17, 2019.
