CSD Instructor Elected to Executive Board

Devon Weist, AuD, CCC-A, was recently elected to serve on the executive board of the American Academy of Audiology. The American Academy of Audiology is the world's largest professional organization of, by, and for audiologists. The active membership of more than 12,000 is dedicated to providing quality hearing care services through professional development, education, research, and increased public awareness of hearing and balance disorders. Congratulations, Dr. Weist!

MHLP Assistant Professor Presents International Keynotes

Nev Jones, PhD, spent the week of May 3rd as an invited guest of the University of Melbourne's Orygen National Centre for Excellence in Youth Mental Health, widely considered the world's leading research and knowledge translation organisation focusing on mental ill-health in young people. Dr. Jones served as a keynote as part of Australia's annual national early psychosis summit, led a colloquium for Orygen researchers, and spent the remainder of her time planning collaborations and touring Melbourne early psychosis and youth mental health (headspace model) program sites.

In addition, she will be the keynote speaker for the Quebec Psychiatric Association/Association de Medicins Psychiatres du Quebec on May 31st. Her address will cover co-production, participatory research methods and stakeholder engagement in research on serious mental illness.

MHLP Hosts Columbia University Faculty and Staff for Tampa Early Psychosis Trainings

Under the auspices of a CBCS internal research grant (Dr. Nev Jones, PI), MHLP hosted three days trainings on the OnTrack evidence based model of early psychosis treatment between May 14th and 16th. To our knowledge, this is the first OnTrack training in the State of Florida and was attended by representatives from DCF - Tallahassee, Central Florida Behavioral Health Network and Aspire Health in Orlando, along with Tampa's new early psychosis team (Healthy Minds) based at Success for Kids & Families in Tampa.

2019 Fall Forensic Series

MHLP will be hosting its 2019 Continuing Education Forensic Training Series for Mental Health Professionals in early August. Instruction in forensic evaluation of adults and juveniles involved in the legal system is complemented with focused training on assessing and managing patients' risk for violence in acute long-term care settings. The Forensic Evaluation and Juvenile Justice training will take place from August 12 - 13, 2019. The Florida Adult Forensic Examiner Training will be held from August 15 - 17, 2019.
