CBCS Faculty Most Influential Criminologists in the World

According to Ioannidis, et al. (2019, PLOS - Biology), Drs. Michael Lynch and John Cochran (Criminology) and Dr. Norm Poythress (MHLP) were listed among the "most influential criminologists in the world". Out of 6,880,389 scholars worldwide across 22 fields and 176 subfields, they were among the approximately 105,000 identified as the most influential, 269 of whom were other criminologists. This placed them in the top 1.5 percent (98th percentile) of all scholars across all disciplines worldwide.

MHLP Professor to Provide Assistance in South Africa

Paul G. Stiles, JD, PhD, will be working with administrators, faculty and students at the University of the Witwatersrand (UW) in Johannesburg, South Africa this coming March 2020. Dr. Stiles has been on the Fulbright Specialist roster to assist universities in developing their research integrity programs, and collaborated with UW in this recent successful Fulbright award. For over 3 weeks this March, Dr. Stiles will be in Johannesburg evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of UW's research integrity policies and processes, assisting UW to create culturally sensitive ethics training for faculty and students researchers, providing several live workshops on ethics and responsible conduct of research that integrate South African law and regulation, and consulting with UW Biko Centre for Bioethics. He will also meet with the South African National Research Foundation in Pretoria to discuss funding of several initiatives. This Fulbright award adds another project to USF's growing list of successful applications to the Fulbright program.

CFS Research Associate Professor Elected as Chair of the Quantitative/Qualitative Café for the 2020 AEA Conference

During the November 2019 business meeting of the Topical Interest Group (TIG): Quantitative Methods: Theory and Design (Quant TIG), Dr. Svetlana Yampolskaya was elected as a chair of the Quantitative/Qualitative Café for the 2020 American Evaluation Association (AEA) Conference.

The mission of the AEA Quantitative Methods TIG is to support the effective use of quantitative methods in evaluation. Dr. Yampolskaya will be in charge of assembling consultants who will give free advice on quantitative and qualitative methods or research design questions during AEA's conference October 26 - 31, 2020 in Portland, OR.

CFS Research Professor Provides Keynote Address at the Behavior Education Technology Conference

Dr. Heather Peshak George recently provided a Keynote Address at the Behavior Education Technology Conference in Phoenix, AZ. Her presentation, Building District Capacity to Systematically Improve Outcomes for All, addressed the number of schools engaging in Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports and demonstrated improved student and teacher outcomes and reduced disciplinary exclusions. Dr. George provided the latest research findings and practical strategies to build district capacity in order to improve outcomes for all.
