Learning Academy Services (LAS) Launches Two Educational Opportunities for Individuals with Autism and Other Disabilities
photo of learning academy services classLearning Academy Services (LAS) is pleased to announce the launch of two unique educational opportunities for individuals with autism and other disabilities. LAS has partnered with Automation Anywhere to bring Robotics Process Automation (RPA) credentialing training to USF. There's a growing demand for RPA professionals who are certified and experienced in software platforms such as Automation Anywhere. This unique partnership offers persons with autism and related disabilities the opportunity to gain two industry recognized certifications making them in demand candidates in Tampa's ever growing tech hub. In addition to offering RPA training, LAS also joined forces with MacDonald Training Center to create Tech2Work; a post-secondary program that serves as an alternative to a college degree in technology for students with disabilities. At the end of the 12 month program, students can obtain up to four industry recognized certifications in IC3 and RPA, qualifying them for an array of competitive employment in the tech industry. All programming is adapted to the learning style of our student population. These two new programs further support FCIC's missions to enhance the lifestyles of individuals with disabilities and continue CBCS' trajectory of providing the most innovative, evidence based solutions to problems that plague underserved communities. Pups & Popsicles
photo of pups & popsicles eventThe sounds of busy students, barking pups, and crinkling popsicle wrappers filled the air Thursday afternoon as members of CBCS enjoyed a moment away from their studies at the Pups & Popsicles event. The event started in the MHC Atrium and continued into the common area on the third-floor bridge of the CSD building. Southeastern Guide Dogs entertained students and boosted their moods as midterm exams loomed on their calendars. While slurping on their fruity popsicles, students could also spin to win prizes such as t-shirts, water bottles, and stickers. The occasion served as a much-needed study break and self-care session for all. Thank you to everyone who joined us! Missed it? Check out the photos on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter!

listen up it's national audiology awareness monthAudiology Awareness focuses on promoting public awareness of the importance of good hearing and balance health for all ages. The National Institutes of Health's National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders states that approximately 28.8 million Americans could benefit from the use of hearing aids. While age is often cited as a factor, there are growing numbers of younger people reporting hearing difficulties. There is also a link between untreated hearing loss and falls. According to a study conducted by Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, an increase in hearing loss in an individual, for instance going from normal hearing to an untreated mild hearing loss, is associated with a 3-fold increase in fall risk.

To promote hearing and balance healthcare in accordance with Audiology Awareness, USF Hearing Clinic (located within the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders) will be offering hearing and balance screenings to ALL USF faculty, students, and staff during the month of October. Screenings will take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 am - 12:00 pm and from 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm in the PCD Building. Anyone interested in participating in a hearing and balance screening should contact the USF Hearing Clinic at hearingclinic@usf.edu for further details. Audiologists and Audiology students will be conducting the screenings and following CDC guidelines for COVID prevention.

Happy Hearing and Balance to all USF Bulls!
